We Love You Ms. Etta James! R.I.P.

Years ago, Miles gave me a boxed set of Etta James. Within seconds I was hooked. She was raw, tough and sexy. I looked up old videos of her and was proud that she just sannnngggg! She didn't have to do much else. Her dress sizes varied throughout her life, and it was obvious she had the confidence not to care what she looked like but how she sounded. Ms. Etta James, Bette Midler, Eva Cassidy and Bonnie Raitt are my idols. When I sing, I try to be like them. Of all my idols, Ms. Etta was the wild one. She spoke her mind, regardless of the consequences. When Obama asked Beyonce to sing "At Last" I was offended. Ms. Etta was alive and well, and very able to sing her own damn song. Of course, she lashed back at the media.(A sassy attitude
which I adore!)

Now, with my House of Blues show coming up, my producer wanted me to sing one of her songs, as a tribute to my Queen. Little did he know, the song was already on the top of my list. The only thing in question is how many Etta James songs I would sing, not if I would sing one!

Watch this clip of her. See how she sings, what she was wearing and how she moved. That cute little body, those cat eyes and that raspy voice! Oh Lord!

Still today, there is no one like her. Everyone including me has succumbed to the pressure of being sexy. I think Etta taught us to SING and everything else would fall into place with or without the sexy outfits! When I found out the news I got a little teary. I knew she wouldn't live forever but boy did I want her too.

At Last, she is with her maker. We thank God for Etta James. She makes girls everywhere have the faith to hit those notes with attitude. I love her and she will be greatly missed.
